Taking umbrage over a security detail of a SP leader allegedly winked at her at a traffic signal in Agra, a 23-year-old woman vented her anger on the Samajwadi Party leader’s car. The incident was caught on video.

Sadhvi Pandey, the victim, alleged that she was on her scooter with her sister at a traffic signal, when the incident occurred. Her sister tried to take a photograph, but the man snatched her phone and smashed it.

That is when Sadhvi jumped on to the car and stood there for about 30-minutes in angry protest.

Women rights activists have lauded Sadhvi for her courage and criticised the UP government for its inaction in the matter.

“The time has come in India that the Government of India wake up and take note of the situation through which the women of this country are passing through, but that is not happening. So, women have begun to assert their rights and have started to raise questions about violations. This is a very positive development and we congratulate the woman for her courage.”

“The politicians of the parties in power look at everyone as their property. We appreciate the girl taking the matter into her own hands after the gunner eve-teased her,” All India Democratic Women’s Organisation’s Jagmati Sangwan said.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party leader’s father is said to have met Sadhvi at her residence to apologise and gave her a monetary compensation for the broken phone.
