Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has reportedly conceded defeat to right-wing party leader Andrzej Duda, after exit polls showed the latter leading the presidential race by a fairly decisive victory.

Though the official results will be announced on Monday, a combination of exit polls and early vote tallies showed that Law and Justice party candidate Duda had taken the run-off vote by 52 percent to 48 percent.

Conceding defeat before a gloomy gathering of supporters, Komorowski said that it didn’t work out this time and congratulated Duda on the victory.

The post is largely ceremonial in Poland , but Duda’ victory has raised the prospect that Civic Platform, the center-right party that has controlled the government since 2007, will be routed in parliamentary elections this fall.
