Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has assured his help to make Maharashtra the first ‘waste-free’ region of the country and has asked citizens to adopt a combination of modern and conventional methods to tackle the issue.
Aamir added that passion was necessary to make the ‘Swachh Maharashtra’ drive a success.
“If we start to address this issue of wastage in Maharashtra, then the state will become a symbol and inspiration for the whole country. So let’s make Maharashtra the first state to go waste-free, completely waste-free. And we should get rid of dumping ground. My team and I will completely help this campaign,” said Aamir.
He pointed out that the objective can be achieved through political and administrative will and participation of citizens.
“The ancient process of waste management in India is the correct way. We do not need technology. Our forefathers used to recycle the waste into biogas. Today, by using modern technology if we combine it with conventional way then various waste management techniques can be found,” he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the cleanliness campaign on the birthday of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on October 2, last year, to improve sanitation within five years.
