Though your kid may be best buds with your dog, parents have been warned not to leave their children alone with their pets, after an attack on a newborn surfaced.

The seven-day-old baby girl was rushed to hospital after being bitten in the face by the family dog, an Alaskan malamute, in Campbelltown, UK, and had to undergo surgery for serious facial injuries.

She is currently in a stable condition in the hospital.

Animal Behaviour Clinic’s Dr Robert Holmes said that kids under the age of 10 should be under immediate supervision of an adult, and it should be ensured that the dogs have been socialized to be in presence of toddlers.

Dr Kersti Seksel, from Sydney Animal Behaviour Service, added that people should start preparing their canines as soon as the pregnancy is known, and teach them good manners.

Meanwhile, the Campbelltown City Council is awaiting the investigation to end, before taking a call on whether to classify the dog as dangerous.
