Peel has announced that its Peel Smart Remote app has generated 100 billion remote commands since launch three years ago.

Peel, the California-based company funded by e-commerce giant, Alibaba, is revolutionizing the home entertainment and home control experience by integrating device control and live or streamed content discovery into one easy-to-navigate universal Peel Smart Remote app. Peel drives brand engagement and TV tune-in for major TV networks and producers through its True Tune-in advertising products and Peel.in Platform.

The company has 100 million registered users worldwide, out of which 25 million are in Asia. India has emerged as one of the fastest growing markets for Peel, doubling every six months.

The large number of TV viewers give the company unprecedented insights into global viewing habits.

Bala Krishnan, co-founder and chief product officer at Peel said that their users have ‘Peeled in’ to five billion TV shows since they have launched.

They currently have viewer data on six shows every second that helps them improve their content discovery features and the overall performance of the app.

It also provides them a unique real-time window into the living rooms of millions of households in India and 200 other countries that can help serve content that viewers really want.

Peel has released a revamped version of its Android app, including a customizable remote widget that can appear on a phone’s lock screen without launching the app.

Peel is also available as a free app on the iTunes App Store for Apple iOS devices.
