A franchise of the fast food chain McDonald’s in France has been forced to apologise after they had ordered their staff not to give meals to homeless people in a note inside the restaurant.
The note was posted on a social media site by French consumer group ’60 Million Consumers’.
The note stated that it was formally forbidden to give food to tramps, adding that the staff meals were for personal benefit and should only benefit the staff member.
McDonald’s is not here to feed all the hungry people in the country, the note said.
The note was signed by the management of McDonald’s franchise in France.
The association cited on its website a McDonald’s employee who had said that he had given some of his food to homeless people outside the restaurant in July, adding that the smile of the homeless person whom he gave the meal to was priceless.
In the statement, McDonald’s France, said that the notice was put up after a serious incident involving two homeless people in front of the restaurant in question, and that it was aimed at keeping the premises safe for its customers.
McDonald’s and the restaurant apologises to all those who might have been shocked by this notice and stated that the brand was dedicated to serving all its clients without discrimination, the statement added.
