Students take to streets against tobacco

Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College and St Martha’s Hospital hold anti tobacco rally.

The morning of September 9 saw a massive gathering of youngsters at JC Road. This group of young men and women were from the Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College and were getting together for an Anti-Tobacco Rally to educate public about the health hazards of tobacco. Joining hands with them to spread this very important message was St Martha’s Hospital.

Students started the event with a street play in the college premises on how smoking is bad for health. They also showcased the impact of smoking and how youngsters are getting addicted to this bad habit by being lured with it.

800 students walked around the streets shouting slogans against the use of tobacco. The students also staged the same play in front of Town hall.

The rally began at 10.45 AM at JC Road and proceeded towards Town Hall, HCG Hospital and back to the college. The rally was organized by Ms. Suma V Rao, Principal of Jain College and Ms. Usha P.S, Conveyer of the college’s Eco Club. Considering the close to 800-strong crowd St Martha’s Hospital provided the event and its participants with a doctor, nurses and other requirements.

Mr Jaykar Jerome, Director, St Martha’s Hospital says, “St Martha’s Hospital was started with the intention of providing good health care to everyone in society.

Part of that responsibility also involves creating awareness on health related issues. Participating in this rally is just one of the many ways we contribute to this movement of awareness.â€
