Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis on U.S. Open victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis on their victory at the U.S. Open Women’s Doubles finals.

“Congratulations, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis on the phenomenal victory at the US Open. Your accomplishments make us proud,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi also joined in lauding Mirza and Hingis for their achievements.

“After Wimbledon another great win for Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis, this time at the U.S.Open! Congratulations!.” the office of Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Mirza and her Swiss partner Hingis won their second successive Grand Slam title in women’s doubles event at the U.S

Open on Sunday.

The top-seeded Indo-Swiss duo eased past the fourth seeded pair of Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-3 in the summit contest that lasted 70 minutes at Flushing Meadows.

Mirza and Hingis now have five WTA doubles titles together since first joining forces at Indian Wells, including back-to-back Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and US Open.
