Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a statement at the United Nations General Body summit (10:15pm IST) regarding the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
The Post-2015 Development Agenda that has been set after around three years of open global consultations to address some of the pressing issues that the world is facing today, including ending extreme poverty; social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainability; transformation of economies for jobs and inclusive growth; building peaceful and prosperous societies; forging a new global partnership, etc.
The proposed sustainable development goals (SDGs) are prepared and are expected to be adopted by UN member states.
The current UN development agenda is centred on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that were established following the UN Millennium Summit in 2000, which comes to an end in 2015.
The SDGs will replace the millennium development goals as the new global goals to be accomplished by 2030.
