Thousands of Muslims all across Tripura gathered in the Gedu Mia mosque at Agartala to offer morning prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha on Friday.

The Eid prayers started around 8.30 a.m.when the Imam of the mosque, Maulana Abdul Rehaman, read out the prayer.

Eid-al-Adha or Zuha is one of the most celebrated Muslim festivals of the world.

Muslims hugged and exchanged greetings of peace and love to spread in the society irrespective of religion.

Mohammad Bashir, a Muslim follower from Kashmir, who also joined the morning prayer said “Basically, I am from Kashmir, but I am not feeling that in spite of the hot weather, as the people are very friendly and united.

I am far away from my home, but still enjoying it here.”

“Eid spreads the message of sacrifice and as the Maulana said that along with the sacrifice of the anime one should also sacrifice the evil within self. Moreover, all religion spreads the message of fraternity and unity. It is everyone’s duty to spread this and move forward,” he added.

It is the festival of sacrifice celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son to keep his word to God.

“Eid al-Adha is also known as Qurbani Eid in which the Muslim sacrifices an animal to acquire the Almighty’s grace.

But this festival is not just about sacrificing an animal. It is a festival with a message to sacrifice our ego, pride, give up thoughts of hatred and all other bad habits,” said Maulana Abdul Rehman, the chief cleric of the mosque.

Each Muslim family sacrifices an animal and distributes its meat among the poor, downtrodden and relatives. They also offer donations to various institutions such as orphanages and homes for the elderly.
