U.S. Permanent Representative to UN’s Samantha Power visits Jaffna Peninsula, to meet Lankan leadership today

Samantha Power, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, visited Sri Lanka’s northern Jaffna Peninsula on Sunday.

Power is currently on a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka and during her stay in Jaffna, met local officials and stopped over at organisations and communities that were once affected by the over two-decade-long civil war between the Sri Lankan armed forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE).

She also interacted with college students and urged them to use the medium of education to create peace from conflict.

She said that the United States Government would back all efforts for rehabiliatation and rebuilding of places in Sri Lanka affected by the civil war.

Power will be calling on Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesignhe in Colombo today.
