Barack Obama discusses Syria crisis with Putin - COP21

U.S. President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin met on the sidelines of the Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris and discussed the Syria crisis.

Obama stressed on targeting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) in Syria and not focus on the rebel groups opposing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

An official said that both the Presidents spoke about the importance of making progress on the Vienna process to bring about a ceasefire and political resolution to the civil war in Syria.

The U.S. president also conveyed his regret over the recent death of Oleg Peshkov, the Russian pilot whose aircraft was shot down by a Turkish missile.

During their 30-minute meet on the sidelines of the conference, Obama also spoke to Putin about de-escalating the tense situation between Russia and Turkey.
