Massive Gunbattle underway near Air Force basetwo terrorists killed: Pathankot

Around five militants in Army fatigue opened fire near the Air Force station here early in the morning today and a massive gunbattle is underway between the security forces and the attackers.

The Pathankot National Security Guard team and the Garud Commando Force are engaged in the gun battle with terrorists in the non-operational area of the base.

The firing began at 3:30 am today and two militants have been killed so far in the heavy firing and the area has been cordoned off.

The remaining terrorists have been cordoned to the domestic area of Air Force Station and the technical area of the airbase is safe.

Helicopters have also been dispatched to the area for assistance in the operation and the National Security Guard has been called in.

Meanwhile, top officials have convened an emergency meet at the Air Force Headquarters in Delhi and the situation is being monitored at the highest level.

This attack comes a day after the Gurdaspur SP was allegedly kidnapped and beaten up by men in Army fatigues before being released.

Red alert was issued in Gurdaspur and Pathankot after the senior police officer was abducted.

In July last year, heavily-armed men in army fatigues had opened fire on a moving bus and stormed the Dinanagar police station, killing six persons, including an SP,in Gurdaspur district bordering Pakistan.
