PANAJI: Former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal, who is in police custody following charges of sexually assaulting a woman journalist, was taken to the Goa Medical College Hospital for a sexual potency test as mandated by the new rape law.
A sexual potency test is done to determine if the suspect is physically capable of the sexual acts he has been accused of having committed.
Tejpal breaks down during interrogation
Meanwhile, agency reports say that after being remanded to six days in police custody by the court on Sunday, Tejpal was drilled by Crime Banch officials at the Dina Paula office in Goa for more than five hours.
Tejpal reportedly broke down while being interrogated.
A woman journalist, who was employed with Tehelka, has accused tarun Tejpal of having sexually assaulted her twice — on November 7 and 8 — in an elevator at a five-star hotel in Goa. He has been booked under Sections 354A (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 376 (2)(K) (custodial rape) of IPC.
Tejpal has been kept at the Panaji police lock up. Sources said that the court will on Monday hear Tejpal’s plea on whether he can be provided with a fan while in police custody.
Investigating officer PI Sunita Sawant led Tejpal’s interrogation. The police are trying to piece together the sequence of events as stated by the girl in her complaint. They have also taken into possession Tejpal’s cellphone.
The Goa police will also seize the computers/laptops from which mails were sent by the Tehelka editor to the woman journalist.
