Melbourne, Jan. 26: Eighth seeded Stanislas Wawrinka beat World No.1 Rafael Nadal on Sunday to win Australian Open.
The Swiss defeated the Spaniard 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in two hours and 21 minutes to deny him 14th major title.
This is the also a first major title win for Wawrinka, who previously won Gold medal in mens double in 2008 Beijing Olympics along with countrymen Roger Federer.
Nadal’s chances of winning also suffered because of the troublesome blister that he had in his left hand.
