Bangalore: Bangalore South MP and BJP National General Secretary Ananth Kumar on Thursday declared his support for conferring of the Bharat Ratna award on thespian and matinee idol, the late Dr. Rajkumar posthumously.

Speaking after unveiling the 14.5 feet tall bronze statue of the greatest actor of Kannada movies at the South End Circle in the city, Ananth Kumar pointed out that Dr. Rajkumar was Karnataka’s undisputed cultural ambassador, who had found acceptance in every home of the state. “It is unfortunate that Bharat Ratna was not conferred upon such a cultural icon. All of us should join hands and seek Bharat Ratna recognition to our favourite actor,” he added.“Dr. Rajkumar’s contribution to cinema, society, Kannada language and culture is unparalleled. He rightfully deserves the highest civilian recognition of the nation,” Ananth Kumar stated.

Extending his support to the Kannada film industry, which is opposing dubbing of other language movies into Kannada, Ananth Kumar said he would raise the issue during the winter session of the Parliament.

Ananth Kumar expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge victorious in more than 20 Parliamentary segments in the general elections.

Bangalore City Mayor B S Sathyanarayana, Minister for Transport R Ramalinga Reddy, former deputy CM R Ashoka, corporators N R Ramesh and M Udayshankar were present on the occasion.
