While bharathanatyam has come a long way from the times of the devadasis and metamorphosed into an experience, constantly pushing boundaries, here is another programme that strives to show how consummate it is.

Stringing together music ranging from sufi music to khayal, Bach and Vivaldi, ‘Samadhina’ will be a showcase of the diversity of arts strung together by principles that apply to all art forms.

Artistes Shobana, Anil Srinivasan (grand piano), Vijay Ghate (tabla), Kyun Woo Chung (Western violin) and Sanjay Das (guitar) will present the programme that traverses many genres seamlessly.

Samadhina has been organised by B Force, a charitable trust that aims to provide medical assistance to the Tamil Nadu police force with a focus in the field of cancer management.

B Force is a tribute to former Tamil Nadu DGP K Mohandas and his wife Shanta Mohandas by his daughters — Bindu, Beena, Biju and Brinda.

Bindu Dijendranath, trustee, B Force, says that Samadhina will be the first major fundraising programme by the six-year-old Trust. “We have had several referrals and the funds are inadequate to meet the requirements of all of them. Hence we decided to come up with a programme like Samadhina,†she says. Bindu adds that Shobana created the programme exclusively for the event and will be premiering it for the audience at the B Force event.

“The show is unique because it has classical, sufi and Western elements. Being a well-wisher and a good family friend, Shobana has come up with something as innovative as this. It has not been done before,†she tells us.

Samadhina will be held at The Music Academy on April 22 at 7 pm. Tickets are priced at Rs 2,000, Rs 1,000, Rs 750 and Rs 500.
