Vadodara, May 16: Addressing the people after his thumping victory in the Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday said that it is for the first time that a non-Congress government has been voted to power with a clear majority.

“After gaining independence, most of time there has been Congress led government in the centre. But it is for the first time in the history of India that barring the Congress governments, a government has come with a clear majority,” Modi said while addressing his victory rally in Vadodara.

“We never got the honor to fight the battle for Independence or die for Swaraj. We did not go to jail or suffered from British rule. But in this independent India we will live for Swaraj. This is our commitment,” he added.

He also thanked the people of Gujarat for giving all 26 parliamentary constituencies to the BJP.

“In the history of Lok Sabha elections, such a margin of 5.7 lakhs votes was never seen ever before. I thank people of Vadodara for this,” he added.
