New Delhi, June 3: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday met Oman foreign minister Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah here.
The two leaders reportedly discussed bilateral ties, including political, economic and defence aspects, between the two countries.
Later, Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulated him on his swearing-in as the new Prime Minister.
Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah is on an official visit to India to congratulate the newly elected government on behalf of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman. He had earlier paid an official visit to India recently on 28 February 2014 at the invitation of External Affairs Minister.
India’s close and friendly relations with Oman are based on historical people to people contacts. Oman is an important trading partner of India in the Gulf region with bilateral trade exceeding US$ 5.70 billion in 2013-14. The contribution of over 700,000 strong Indian communities in the progress and development of Oman is well acknowledged and appreciated.
