Vastrabharana 2014, Crafts Council of Karnataka’s annual exhibition and sale of hand-crafted textiles and jewellery, is back at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat , with many more exciting participants from all over the country, from the 27th of September to the 2nd of October, 2014.
This flagship fundraiser event which has become synonymous with the connoisseurs of fine textiles in Bangalore, will be inaugurated on 27th September 2014 at 4 PM by Smt Arundhati Nag, the versatile actor and theatre person. This will be followed by a short presentation on “Sari, the unstitched garment” by textile expert Rta Kapur Chisthi.
“Every year, a particular textile tradition is highlighted at Vastrabharana. This year’s focus will be on Khadi, a textile that has been promoted actively by the Crafts Council of Karnataka “says chairperson of Crafts Council Karnataka, Geetha Rao.

There will also be a variety of hand-woven Tussars from Bengal, Bihar, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and a variety of textiles from other regions of india.
The jewelry section this year features handcrafted silver jewellry in traditional and contemporary designs as well as thread jewelry.
Crafts Council of Karnataka is a not-for-profit organization started in Bangalore in 1967 under the patronage of Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay.The mission of CCK is the promotion and support of the crafts of Karnataka and sustainable livelihoods for its craftspersons. Its objectives are to provide a bridge between craft communities and source markets, facilitate design intervention and product development that will meet the needs of the contemporary consumer, upgrade technologies of crafts persons and revive, support and preserve languishing crafts of Karnataka. CCK is affiliated to the Crafts Council of India. The proceeds from Vastrabharana will benefit craft communities in Karnataka.
