Karnataka High Court acquits former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others in a disproportionate assets case today.

The Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa faced a critical judicial test as the High Court is set pronounced its verdict on her appeal against her conviction in the disproportionate assets case.

Previously, the trial court had sentenced Jayalalithaa and her close confidante Sasikala and two of her relatives, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran, also AIADMK chief’s disowned foster son, to four years in jail in September 27 last year. It had also imposed a hefty fine of Rs 100 crore on Jayalalithaa and Rs 10 crore each on the three others.

Others who are acquitted include Jayalalithaa’s close confidante Sasikala and two of her relatives, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran, also AIADMK chief’s disowned foster son.

Jayalalithaa is now eligible to takeover as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister with immediate effect.
