14 people have been injured after an engine on a British Airways jet caught fire during takeoff from Las Vegas.

Clark County Fire Department Deputy Chief Jon Klassen said the injuries came as most of the passengers slid down the inflatable chutes to evacuate the Boeing 777.

One of the London bound flight passenger, who was injured, said it was “pretty scary stuff”, adding that he heard a big thud just when the plane was getting ready to take off.

He also said that he only saw flames when he lifted the window.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft’s left engine caught fire, prompting the crew to abort the takeoff.

The flight had 159 passengers and 13 crew members on board.
