New Delhi, Jan.24: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday warned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for violating the model code of conduct that banned appealing for votes based on region, and asked Kejriwal to be cautious during election campaigns in future.
The Election Commission in the order to Kejriwal noted: “There shall be no appeal to caste or communal feelings for securing votes. Mosques, Churches, Temples or other places of worship shall not be used as forum for election propaganda…… the Commission is not satisfied with the explanation furnished by you in reply to the Commission’s above referred notice; The Commission hereby conveys its concern, and cautions you to be more careful in the election campaigns of your party in future.”
A complaint was filed by BJP leader Harish Khurana, who alleged that Kejriwal had violated the model code of conduct by distributing pamphlets that contained appeal for votes on religious grounds during his Delhi Assembly polls campaign.
