Dahod (Gujarat), Apr.26: Taking on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on the Gujarat Lokayukta issue, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the day when a Right to Information (RTI) commissioner or a Lokayukta is appointed in Gujarat, then Modi will go to jail.

“The day a RTI commissioners or a Lokayukta is appointed in Gujarat, your chowkeedar (Modi) will go to jail,” said while addressing a rally here.

“In the whole country, the Right to Information Act (RTI) has been implemented. But the Gujarat Government did not implement it in the state. Even the high court said that the government should appoint RTI commissioners. But still they are not appointed,” he added.

He further said that in every state of the country there is a Lokayukta but it is not appointed in Gujarat.

” Modi says that he wants to be the ‘chowkidar’ (watchman) of the country. Will you trust such a ‘chowkidar’ who gave the land of poor to the industrialists at throwaway prices in Gujarat? Think about what he will do if he becomes the ‘chowkidar’ of the country?” he asked.

Rahul also said that the Congress tries to help the poor through its flagship schemes like RTI, MNREGA and Food Security Act.

“We generated Rs. 30000 crore from NREGA and put it in your pocket. It is your money as you work for it. And we did not ask you about your religion, caste or from where you hail from. If you are Indian, then 100 days of employment is guaranteed by the Congress,” said Rahul .

He also said that the Land Acquisition Bill was not properly implemented in Gujarat, and asked whether the people got their land back from the Gujarat government.

“The Land Acquisition Bill was not properly implemented in Gujarat, and it should have benefitted the people here. Lakhs of people should have got their land back,” he added.

He alleged that the Gujarat Government gave away 45000 acres land for a throwaway price to Adani, and said the land belonged to poor farmers.
