Bengaluru, May 11: Police in India’s IT hub Bengaluru registered complaint on Sunday after a woman was gang-raped by two men after being pulled inside a car.

“Today morning police in Bengaluru registered a complaint. As per the complaint a lady was waiting for some transport near Bellandur. A car came in which six persons were present. The said persons after seeing her dragged her inside the car and took her to a deserted place where she was subjected to sexual violence by two persons. Again they took her inside the car,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, Kamal Pant.

The police also informed that the victim is undergoing treatment although she is out of danger now.

“En route when the car slowed down on a hump and she opened the door and escaped from the car. Thereafter, she entered into the building. These fellows chased her and during the process, she fell down from first floor. Thereafter, she was taken to the hospital by the locals and she is under treatment and out of danger. We have taken up the case, we have certain clues in the case and it appears that some more persons could be involved and we are looking into some more dimensions,” added Pant.

Police are investigating the case to nab the perpetrators.

Women’s safety in the country has been in the spotlight following the brutal gang rape of a young student on a moving bus in New Delhi in December 2012, which led thousands to take to the streets in protest. The woman died of her injuries two weeks later in a Singapore hospital.

The case turned a global spotlight on the treatment of women in India, where police say a rape is reported every 20 minutes.
