Bangalore, 13th August 2014: Jubilant Bhartia Foundation and Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship are proud to announce excellent response of nominations for the Social Entrepreneur of the Year (SEOY) India 2014 Award from enterprises across the country. A total of 189 social enterprises have submitted their applications and will contest for the prestigious Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award. These awards provide a unique platform for the winner to interact with entrepreneurs, build global network and meet the CEOs at the World Economic Forum.
The winner(s) of the SEOY India 2014 Award would be selected through a stringent selection procedure of due diligence, followed by presentation to distinguished jury comprising of eminent members of the government, civil society and corporate world. The winner will be announced at a special ceremony in New Delhi on November 4, 2014.
Some of the Key Highlights of SEOY India 2014 nominations are:
42% of first round applicants are first time applicants reaffirming that each year the award reaches out to a newer pool of candidates who are increasingly recognizing the value of the coveted award
South region led the nominations with 30% nominations comprising from the Southern part of India. West with 29% nominations followed the suit. This year statistics are a departure from the previous year trend when the majority of applicants hailed from the North, followed by the South. While a large number of applicants have headquarters in the South and West, there were a large number of applicants who are expanding operations to the East
A majority of the candidates are from the Education sector (25%), followed by the Enterprise Development sector (18%)
The other major sectors represented amongst the pool of candidates are Health (14%), Rural Development (13%), and Environment (8%). Microfinance and Water and Sanitation have also served as significant sources of applications. ‘Other sectors’ that have emerged are disability, unemployment/livelihoods, and Human Rights. This is a departure from the previous years as Enterprise Development has emerged as popular sector amongst a large base of applicants, while Rural Development (which was the second largest sector source of applications in 2013) has moved down to the fourth largest source of applications
