World number one Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Davis Cup World Group Play-off tie against hosts India to be held at Bangalore’s KSLTA Stadium from September 12 – 14 according to a Serbian website https://www.novosti.rs.

The website quoted Serbian non-playing captain Bogdan Obradovic as saying that “Our best player Novak Djokovic is definitely not coming to India. The biggest reason is fatigue”.

Obradovic confirmed it here on Monday morning and stated that apart from being tired and being hit by fatigue, the World No 1 sought to spend time with his wife Jelena who is expecting their first child.

An official statement is expected on Monday.

Bangalore’s high humidity and altitude were also factors that Obradovic mentioned for Djokovic’s pulling out.

The reigning Wimbledon champion was shocked by Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the semifinal of the US Open on Saturday and is likely to be replaced by World No. 179 Ilija Bozoljac. Serbia’s doubles specialist Nenad Zimonjic is expected to reach Bangalore on Monday.
