Minister for Higher Education & Tourism R V Deshpande inaugurates state-of-the-art campus with Wi-Fi; 24/7 security; environment-friendly initiatives

BENGALURU: The prestigious R V College of Architecture (RVCA), set up by the renowned Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST), has raised the bar for architecture education in the country by moving into its own state-of-the-art new campus in Banashankari 6th Stage, Bengaluru.

Karnataka’s Minister for Higher Education & Tourism R V Deshpande inaugurated the new campus on November 22 in the presence of several dignitaries.

The R V College of Architecture was instituted in 1992-93, as a Department of Architecture of the R V College of Engineering, with an intake of 30 students. It was later renamed as R V School of Architecture. The Council of Architecture, Government of Karnataka and VTU recognised R V School of Architecture as R V College of Architecture. Today, the institute has achieved national acclaim for its excellence and eminence in architectural education and research. In continuing with the tradition RVCA is set to become the dream destination for architecture students.

In his speech, Mr. Deshpande lauded the efforts of the RSST in providing the best of the facilities to architecture students. Prof Uday C Gadkari, President, Council of Architecture (New Delhi) was present on the occasion.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. K. Panduranga Setty, Chairman, RSST, remarked, “This is a major achievement for all of us and we feel proud on this momentous day. With an autonomous status and new identity, RVCA has moved into its new stand-alone state-of-the-art campus. This will benefit students from all over India as they pursue excellence in architecture. The RVCA has set new benchmarks and standards in architecture education in the country by producing world-renowned architects. We will continue to strive to maintain our pre-eminence in architecture education.”

The new campus of RVCA is designed by Ar. Tushar V and Ar. Shruti Keshavamurthy [Ochre Architects], stretching the very limits of design. The campus has the latest facilities and amenities for students. They include studio, seminar hall, multipurpose hall, an open air theatre, computer lab, central library, including a digital library, exhibition hall and material yard.

A construction yard to demonstrate building technology, a climatology lab, surveying laboratory, visual arts workshop, plotter room, E-library, and cafeteria are also part of the new campus, making it a completely self-sustaining institute.

For the benefit of students, spacious hostel facility has been created for boys and girls. Each room will have just 3 students to ensure that a perfect ambience is created for studies as well as relaxation. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled so that students have access to the Internet round-the-clock to keep up with the latest trends and developments in architecture from all over the world.

Security has been accorded top priority with personnel deployed round-the-clock in the campus, which is also equipped with the latest CCTV system. The power supply to the entire campus is uninterrupted.

The new campus has incorporated all the latest environment-friendly initiatives, such as, rainwater harvesting and sewage treatment plant (60 KLD capacities).

About R V College of Architecture

R V College of Architecture was instituted in 1992-93, as a Department of Architecture of R V College of Engineering, with an intake of 30 students and DR. K.S ANANTHA KRISHNA as the head of the department.

Reputed practicing architects in Bengaluru were brought in as visiting faculty to add expertise in the teaching panel, which is being practiced as an institutional policy in RVCA till date. The department started to make a mark by its earnestness to the cause of architectural education and redesignated as R V School of Architecture. The school then shifted to its independent premises in RVCE campus in 1995, a building designed by Late Prof. Sudheendra, for which the students added an artistic flavour. R V School of Architecture was accorded Autonomy Status under RVCE by RSST, VTU and UGC during 2009. With this new status, the College broadened its horizon by introducing Post Graduation Program in Urban Design under the aegis of VTU.

With national acclaim for its excellence and eminence in architectural education and research, Council of Architecture, Government of Karnataka and VTU recognized RVSA as R V College of Architecture. With its autonomous status and  new identity, RVCA has moved into its new standalone state of the art campus designed by Ar. Tushar V &ShrutiKeshavamurthy [Ochre Architects], stretching the very limits of design.

R V College of Architecture has etched a distinction for itself in the realms of architectural education and research in India and abroad and is now recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the architectural profession, the world over. The New Campus has created an ideal learning environment for students interested in the study of architecture at Bachelor’s and Master’s level and architectural research in the sub-continent.
