Patna, Feb.24: In a major setback to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), thirteen MLA’s of the party on Monday announced their decision to break away from the party.
However, an hour later the party was able to get back five MLA’s back to its fold, after the revolt led by RJD MLA Samrat Choudhary.
Earlier, the 13 MLA’s met Bihar Assembly speaker Uday Narain and sought to be recognized as a separate group. The request was immediately accepted by the Speaker.
“There have been efforts to trample RJD since three months. Only Nitish Kumar is in the situation to protect secularism in Bihar,” said Choudhary.
Another rebel RJD MLA Javed Ansari said, “Nitish Kumar has proved himself today. A person who can decline the BJP’s support and weaken his party for the issue of secularism, must be serious towards secularism. Lalu is now fighting for Congress, instead of carrying on his fight for secularism. We are here to strengthen the Chief Minister.”
Meanwhile, Lalu denied the report about MLA’s breaking away from the party.
