KNK Swamy & Co bags first place for Construction Site Safety in 43rd National Safety Awards

Bangalore/ Bellary, March 4, 2014: KNK Swamy & Co, Civil engineers and Contractors from Bangalore have bagged the first place for Construction Project Site Safety in the 43rd National Safety Awards given away by Sri P.T. Parameshwara Naik the Hon’ble Minister for Labour, Govt of Karnataka, and District Incharge Minister, Bellary at Dr. Joladarashi Doddannagowda Rangamandira in Bellary on the occasion of National Safety Week celebrations today.

A total of 25 companies including large companies like Biocon, Toyota Kirloskar, Cipla etc were recipients of safety awards instituted by the Department of Factories and Boilers under various categories. The awards are a result of a state-level competition related to safety which was organized by the Department of Factories and Boilers, Govt of Karnataka. To qualify for the competition, a project had to be above Rs 25 crore, taken up in Karnataka in the calendar year 2013.

KNK Swamy & Co has received this award for ensuring safety on the construction site of Chemizol Pvt Ltd at Bidadi in Bangalore, where they had deployed over 250 workers with more than 500,000 safe man hours to its credit. M/s Mindspace are the Architects & M/s Potential PMC is the Project Management Consultants for the Chemizol Project.

“This award is an honor for KNK Group. At KNK, we consistently make a conscious effort to ensure world-class safety standards at every site. This is the second time we are receiving the safety award. Two years ago we stood Second, but this time we have been placed First in the Construction Site Safety category,” apprises Ashish Krishnaswamy, Director, KNK Swamy & Co.

  • Workers to be registered as beneficiaries under Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
  • SHE policy to be enforced
  • Safety Organization of the Construction Company to be in place

  • Regular Safety Auditing
  • Safety Officer to be appointed
  • ISO Certification
  • Welfare Measures like lunch room facilities
  • Medical Facilities
  • No serious accidents
  • High count of safe man days / man hours worked

Speaking on winning the award, KNK Swamy, Chairman and Promoter of the KNK Group said, “Following agriculture, construction is the second largest source of employment in the country. It becomes the duty of companies like ours to ensure that we provide a safe working environment for our laborers. They are also entitled to welfare measures, which we ensure they always get. Receiving this award is an acknowledgement that our work is moving in the right direction.”

The awards ceremony at Bellary was inaugurated by Sri P.T. Parameshwara Naik and presided over by Sri Anil H. Lad, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Bellary. The Chief Guests were Smt J. Shanta, MP, Bellary, Sri B Sreeramulu, MP, Bellary Rural, Smt Shobha Bendigiri, President Jilla Panchayat, Bellary, and Sri Mruthyunjaya Jinaga, MLC, Bellary. Guests of Honour included Sri M.B. Dyaberi, Secy to Govt, Labour Dept and Sri Aditya Amlan Biswas, DC, Bellary.
